Academic Policies
Attendance
Students are expected to attend all class sessions of each course taken.
When a student cannot attend a class, he/she is expected to:
Contact the instructor prior to the absence to explain the reason for
the absence.
Make provisions to obtain class notes and any other information that was
missed.
Any student missing three classes may have his/her grade lowered. A
student missing four or more classes will be given an incomplete grade
of "I" and that part of the course must be retaken. Emergency situations
such as illness or a death in the family will always be taken into
consideration by the instructor. Students taking summer classes or
seminars may have more stringent policies, as stated by the instructor.
Course Load
For Students employed full time (part time students):
A graduate student who holds a full-time position of employment may
register for no more than two (2) courses and six (6) semester hours for
each of the
terms.
For full time students (not employed full time):
At the Dayton Campus, full time graduate students may register for a
maximum of sixteen (16) semester hours during the fall, winter and
summer II sessions but it is not permissible to register for more than
two (2) courses during each of the three week periods during the summer
II session. For summer I session, full time students may register for a
maximum of nine (9) semester hours.
At the Capital Campus, full time students may register for a maximum of
twelve (12) semester hours during the fall and winter sessions. For the
summer I and summer II sessions, full time graduate students may
register for a maximum of nine (9) semester hours.
For students not yet accepted into a program:
Students who have applied, but wish to take classes before they are
accepted, may take up to six (6) credit hours before they are accepted,
and those credits will count towards their degree program. Note that
taking classes does not guarantee acceptance into a degree program.
Time Limits
All requirements for a master's degree must be satisfied within seven
calendar years from the date of matriculation.
All courses found to be incomplete (I) or in progress (P) at the end of
a term should be completed within one year of that term.
Transfer of Credits
Six (6) semester hour credits in course work may be allowed to transfer
from other accredited institutions provided the work is of "A" or "B"
quality. No courses evaluated Credit, Satisfactory, Pass, etc. will be
accepted for transfer to the University of Dayton for graduate work
credit. Quality points are not transferred. Transfer credit must have
been taken no more than five years before UD matriculation.
