School Psychology
Training Philosophy
The School Psychology Program at the University of Dayton is based upon
the scientist-practitioner model of service delivery. Within this model,
school psychology students become competent researchers, contributors to
the school psychology knowledge base, and practitioners who apply their
knowledge and skills through a problem-solving process to improve the
education of children and youth in schools.
The mission of the School Psychology Program is to provide a
comprehensive, integrated and sequential program of study which prepares
competent school psychologists whose services will positively impact
children, youth, teachers, families and other consumers. The Program is
committed to providing training that is delivered in the Marianist
Tradition of educating the whole person, and to linking learning and
scholarship with leadership and service. Diversity in thought, religious
belief, social, cultural, ethnic, and economic background is valued.
Consistent with the themes of the School of Education and Allied
Professions and the Department of Counselor Education and Human
Services, the School Psychology Program endeavors to build learning
communities through critical reflection and to facilitate the
development of human service practitioners who work to support
individual and community growth.
