Update: Changes Made for School Counseling Program (May 9, 2006)

We are pleased to announce some exciting changes to the masters degree program in School Counseling.  In accordance with our ongoing commitment to provide rigorous and relevant training program we are adding 3 new courses to the program. Beginning with the Summer 2006 cohort, students will be required to take EDC 501 Orientation to the School Counseling Program, EDC 546 Program Development and Implementation in School Counseling and EDC 547 Consultation and Leadership in School Counseling as part of their program of study. A one semester hour seminar, EDC 501, provides students with a thorough orientation to the program requirements and assists with planning their course schedules and programs from beginning to end. EDC 501 is taken the first semester of entry into the program.  EDC 546 and EDC 547 are each 3 semester hour courses that will provide students with additional knowledge and skills needed to promote the academic achievement, career planning and personal/social development of all Pre K-12 students.

Students admitted prior to Summer 2006 will meet the course requirements of the program at the time of their admission.  These students are encouraged to take EDC 546 and/or EDC 547 to fulfill elective requirements when possible and should consult with their advisor to address any questions. The General Requirements for the students admitted prior to 2006 are listed following the new standards.
