This seminar will provide an overview of
the groups of pharmacological agents and alternative remedies used to
treat various mental disorders. Principles related to pharmacodynamics
and pharmcokinectics will be covered as well as ethical issues with
psychotropic medication for counselors.

In this seminar, students will learn about
the risk factors of suicide for children, adolescents, and adults, and
review suicide assessment tools that can be used in multiple settings.
In addition, students will learn about common issues facing suicidal
clients and treatment techniques, as well as the legal and ethical
implications of working with at-risk clients.

Students will be
able to understand what sex therapy is and isn’t and gain comfort in
talking about sexual concerns. Students will understand about sex
function and common sexual dysfunctions. In addition, students will be
able to hear about real cases and learn “the basics” of sex therapy to
be able to recognize “problems,” provide basic interventions and know
when and how to refer to others. Community Counseling Only.
