The Department of Teacher Education administers the program in Art Education (BSE.EAR), which leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education and to provisional licensure to teach preschool through grade 12.  A student in the Art Education program is required to follow the prescribed EAR curriculum, which includes one area of concentration (63 semester hours required) selected from Studio Art, Photography, Visual Communication Design, and Art History.  A minimum of 124 semester hours of total coursework is required.  The prescribed EAR curriculum may be obtained by viewing the program checksheets.

Successful completion of teacher education field experience and a 2.5 cumulative grade point average are required overall and in professional education courses to continue in the program, student teach, and be licensed.

PRAXIS I, the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST), Reading, Writing, and Math subtests are required and must be waived or passed by the end of the first year.  The PRAXIS II tests are also required.  They include the Principles of Learning and Teaching and one specialty area test in the visual arts licensure area.  They must be taken during the senior year.  Applications for both tests are available in Chaminade 104 and the Chaminade Annex.
