The Department of Teacher Education administers the program in Adolescence to Young Adult (BSE.EYA), which leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education and to provisional licensure to teach grades 7 through 12. A student in the Adolescence to Young Adult program is required to follow the prescribed EYA curriculum, which includes one area of concentration (40 or more semester hours required) selected from Integrated Mathematics, Integrated Language Arts, Integrated Social Studies, Integrated Science, Physical Science, Earth/Physics, Earth/Chemistry, Life/Physics, Life/Chemistry, Life/Earth, Earth Science, and Life Science. A minimum of 124 semester hours of total coursework is required. The prescribed EYA curriculum may be obtained by viewing the program checksheets. Successful completion of teacher education field experience and a 2.5 cumulative grade point average are required overall and in professional education courses to continue in the program, student teach, and be licensed. The PRAXIS I (i.e. Pre-Professional Skills Test or PPST)
reading, writing, and math subtests are required and must be waived or
passed by the end of the first year. The PRAXIS II tests are also
required. They include the Principles of Learning and Teaching (7-12)
and one content area test. They must be taken during the senior year.
