Dr.
Julie K. Biddle: is Director of the
Accelerated Schools Center - Ohio. She spent 17 years as a classroom teacher in both
public and private schools. For five years she was the assistant principal,
and mentor to new teachers. Most recently she has taught graduate level
classes in early childhood education and educational research, and served as
co-editor of The Journal for A Just and Caring Education.
Her interest and commitment
to the Accelerated Schools Project are natural extensions to her classroom
practice, educational background (Ph.D. in education leadership, M.S. in
early childhood), research interest (at-risk children and their families),
and philosophical position (Constructivist, Deweyan). Julie
currently serves on the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation Board of
Directors and is a consulting reviewer for the Journal of Research in
Childhood Education.
Dr.
Beverly Tillman: is Associate Professor in the School of Education
at UD, where she teaches a variety of general and special education courses
at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She received her B.S. in
Elementary and Special Education from Miami University, her M.A. in Special
Education from the University of Michigan, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum,
Instruction and Professional Development from the Ohio State University.
Dr. Tillman has taught in
P-12 through higher education settings, and is in her 24th year
as an educator. She serves as an external coach, and is involved in selected
research efforts for the Center.
Vickie
L. Hodges: began working at the University of Dayton in June 1985 in
the department of Teacher Education. She has at various times worked as
secretary to the assistant chair, to the department chair, the office of
Educational Services, and for the Dean of the School of Education. Most
recently she was managing editor of The Journal for a Just and Caring
Education and the secretary for special projects such as the Dayton Area
Superintendents' Association. As of January 2000 she began to work
exclusively with the Center as
communications coordinator.
Svea
Cooke: is the Northwest Ohio Regional coordinator for the
Center. She is responsible for schools in Indiana, Detroit,
MI and Lima and Toledo, Ohio. Svea spent 37 years in schools, beginning as a
first grade teacher. Svea retired in 1999 from Dorr Elementary after serving
there as principal for 12 years. She brings a strong commitment to the
Accelerated Schools process, extensive work in grant writing and marshalling
parental and community support in schools. She is responsible for schools in
Elyria, OH and Battle Creek, MI.
