Dr. Thomas J. Lasley II
Dean
School of Education & Allied Professions
Welcome to my homepage. I've been at
the University of Dayton since
1983. During that time, I have served as a faculty member, a
department chair, and currently am serving as Dean of the
School of Education and Allied
Professions.
I teach courses at
all levels, undergraduate through doctoral, but most of my work is
with graduate students. The course I teach at the masters
level focuses on models of teaching. At the doctoral level I
teach a course that deals with school cultures.
I've authored or
co-authored 12 books. Most of the books are still available through
the publishers or through Amazon. My most recent book is one
that I co-authored with Dr. Ted Kowalski and Dr. Jim Mahoney and is
titled Data-Driven Decisions and School
Leadership (Allyn & Bacon 2008). Earlier books that
I have authored or co-authored include
Teaching Peace, which was published by Bergin & Garvey in 1994;
Strategies for Teaching in a Diverse Society, which was
published by Wadsworth in 1997 with a second edition in 2002;
Strategies for Effective Teaching,
which was published by McGraw Hill in 2004; and
Secondary and Middle School Methods,
which
was published by Allyn & Bacon in 2005. I'm currently
working on another book (as a co-author) that will focus on
evidence-based decision making and is titled
Handbook of Data-Based
Decision Making in Education which will be published by
Routledge and is scheduled to be released in 2009.
During the past
several years I have authored or co-authored publications that have appeared
in professional periodicals as well as op-eds in the popular
press. See my resume for examples.
Recent
professional service involvements include the Governor's Commission for Teaching Success
(Ohio Department of Education) and the Planning Committee on Higher
Learning Accountability and Performance (Ohio Board of Regents). I'm Past-President
of the Dayton Council on World
Affairs (DCOWA), which is a regional organization that focuses on
enhanced public understanding of political events on an
international scale, and Past-President of the Project 30 Alliance,
which was a national reform initiative focused on teacher education.
I am currently President of the Dayton Digital Technology High
School Board, which is a school that serves dropout student
populations. I serve on the Think TV Board and am currently
chair of its Education Committee. I serve as a Trustee Emeritus on
the Boonshoft
Museum of Discovery and am presently a member of the Dayton: A Peace Process Committee (DAPP).
