Catholic Education: A Journal of Inquiry and Practice began as a joint effort of four universities -- Fordham University, Saint Louis University, the University of Dayton, and the University of San Francisco -- with the support of a grant from the Lilly Foundation. Catholic Education came into existence in 1997, taking its place as the only scholarly journal dedicated exclusively to research on Catholic educational concerns.

Now in our fourth year of publication, the founding institutions are delighted in the ongoing growth of the journal and commit anew to its mission and purpose. As the interest in Catholic educational research expands, so too does the journal. In an effort to invite other interested educational institutions, organizations, and benefactors into this important work, the journal is welcoming sponsors to join in support of its publication. The newly adopted policy for sponsoring institution reads:
  Sponsoring institutions will:
 
• contribute an annual dollar amount as prescribed by the founding institutions in advance of the calendar year of publication. The contribution for 2000-2001 is $1000.
• designate a representative who will serve as their official liaison to the founding institutions.
• enjoy publication of their sponsorship in every issue of the journal during the period of sponsorship.
   
  Representatives of sponsoring institutions will:
 
• secure the financial backing of their respective institutions for the journal.
• offer advice and counsel to the founding institutions regarding journal policy.
• actively engage in the solicitation of new subscriptions and scholarly manuscripts.
• recruit new subscriptions in the amount of $500 representing a mix of individual ($39.95) and institutional ($80) subscribers within the first two years of sponsorship.
